CONTROVERSIAL former Blues striker Paul Taylor has sealed a sensational switch to Belgian giants Anderlecht.

As revealed in The Chronicle last week, the 22-year-old has been rebuilding his career in Belgium having served a six-month ban for failing a drugs test while on loan at Chester from Vauxhall Motors last year.

Taylor has been playing for RRC Montegnée, who play in Belgium’s equivalent of League Two, and his impressive performances alerted some top clubs.

On Monday he signed a one-and-a-half-year deal with runaway Belgian league leaders Anderlecht, who could face Liverpool or Everton in Europa League action next year.

Anderlecht press officer David Steegen said: “We know about Paul Taylor’s situation. It is not a reason for not offering him a contract.”

Taylor will officially complete his move on January 1 when the transfer window opens.

Alan Bartlam, chairman of Taylor’s former club Vauxhall, wishes the striker well.

He said: “I am happy to see Paul has got his career back on track. He is the best footballer I have ever seen in non-league, and I have seen the likes of Jimmy Case and John Aldridge.”

Taylor, who made 10 appearances for Chester last season, tested positive for cocaine in October last year while he was partway through a six-month loan from Motors.
