CITY Fans United (CFU), the name given to the new fans’ group for the Blues, will hold its formal launch next Thursday (October 22).

The night will take place at Divas Showbar, Station Road, Chester. It starts at 8pm and will be hosted by broadcaster and City fan Charlie Lambert.

Following recent public meetings, City supporters have called for all of the club’s fans’ groups to unite under one banner.

The new unified group has formed from the merger of two fans’ groups – Chester City Supporters Trust and the Independent Supporters Association (ISA) – with the full support of the other supporters’ groups.

Chairman of the CFU working party, Michael Poole, said: “The CFU working party welcome the challenge of bringing all the fans together in this way. All of the fans need to speak with one voice to better represent the interest of the fans of Chester City Football Club and to help the club to move forward.

“In some respects this is the most important meeting of Chester City supporters for a decade and we would encourage everyone who has an interest in Chester City Football Club to attend.”

The Supporters Trust and the ISA have been in negotiations to merge since the club almost went out of business in August.

Chester’s splintered group of fans have often prevented them from presenting a legitimate face for the club to deal with. But now it is hoped that the CFU – supported by Chester City Exiles and the Official Supporters Group – will help give fans a louder voice at the Deva Stadium and be able to put together a serious contingency plan in order to protect professional football in the city should the club find its existence threatened again.

City Fans United (CFU) have organised a Legends Night for Blues fans on Thursday, December 3.

Tickets will be on sale on the CFU launch night and the evening will feature compère Bobby Brown and a number of former Chester City players yet to be confirmed. There will also be a disco, raffle and auction.
