SATURDAY’S game of the day in the Chester & District League Olympic Trophies Division One came at Saltworks Farm as Frodsham Vets just went down 4-3 at home to Chester Nomads 3rds.

The game was seemingly over as a contest at half-time, but winless Frodsham fought after the break and came close to snatching a share of the spoils with goals from John Maddocks, Sam Hayes and Rob Couchman.

It was an afternoon to forget for local sides as Tarvin 2000 Athletic (John Bridge, Kev Leach) were beaten 5-2 at table-topping Levers Athletic, Duddon United (Rob Laughton) lost 2-1 at home to second-placed Manor Athletic, Ashton were on the end of a 3-0 reverse at home to Kelma and Barrow Athletic fell 4-2 at Halfwayhouse Celtic.

Cestrian Alex (Kelvin Rodderick) saw their Drury Electrical Wholesalers Division Two title hopes take a hit as they were edged out 3-2 at home by Raby Villa (Antony Passington 2, Colin Singleton) and leaders Shaftesbury Youth Club won 3-2 at Hoole Rangers Reserves (Jeremy Finnan, Richard Mallony).

Uberlube (Graham Dodd 2, Matthew Elson 2, Steven Dodd, Paul Tomlinson) enjoyed a 6-0 success at home to Chester Celtic as Waggon & Horses settled for 2-1 at home to Lodge Bar.
