CUSTOM House survived a mighty scare to book their place in the second round of the Chester & District FA Whitchurch Sports Sunday Cup.

Mike Gerbils, Jonny Dee, Dave Thomas and Dave Fielding gave Custom House a four-goal half-time lead at Tattenhall. But the lower-division hosts hit back after the break to take the tie into extra-time.

There was just the one more goal in the additional 30 minutes as Elliot Slade struck to earn the visitors a hard-fought 5-4 win.

Highfield Athletic produced a superb fightback to run out 8-2 winners at Spital Vaults.

Joe Walley put the home side in front from the penalty spot before his brother Ben doubled their advantage with a stunning strike from inside his own half. But hat-tricks from Sam Henry and Ellis Mackin, plus further strikes from Jack Hart and Andrew Hallah, ensured Highfield progressed.

FC Hickory’s (John Lawrence 4, Dean Radcliffe 2, Scott Ford, OG) won 8-0 at Red Door; Dee Rangers (Sam Yates, Ryan Williams, Mick Jeffs) 3-0 at home to Blacon Youth.
