RAPIDLY-IMPROVING Malpas were denied a third straight victory in the Cheshire League on Saturday.

Buzzing after back to back wins hauled them off the bottom of Division Two, the Wrexham Road outfit took to Congleton Town Reserves with gusto and they took the lead in the 15th minute when Joe Lund benefited from a goalkeeping error to score direct from a corner.

And one became two 11 minutes later when the returning Richard Sadler hammered home after Roy Cardus was just unable to put a finishing touch to a flowing move involving Steve Weaver and Lund

But back came the mid-table visitors and they scored either side of half-time to earn a hard-fought 2-2 draw, although Deano Marsh came close to winning it for the hosts when his 25-yard screamer rattled the Congleton crossbar.

Tarporley Victoria’s poor Division One form continued as they fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Eagle Sports.

It was a case of contrasting penalties at the Flacca as the in-form visitors converted their contentious spot-kick to take a two-goal lead inside the first 10 minutes before Dan Haralambous missed the chance to halve the deficit as his effort from 12 yards was superbly saved.

Nick Abson was the Vics man of the match.
