TARPORLEY Victoria are looking up after they ended their seven-match Cheshire League Division One losing run on Saturday.

Vics produced an impressive performance to win 2-1 at home to Styal and close the gap on second-from-bottom Billinge to two points.

Man-of-the-match Edd Pattinson opened the scoring in the 32nd minute only for the visitors to level matters 10 minutes after the restart.

The hosts redoubled their efforts and after an intense period of pressure, they finally broke down the Styal defence 10 minutes from time when Pattison notched his second goal of the game and the winner.

Malpas lost a match they should have won when they went down 2-1 at Maine Road Reserves in Division Two.

The Wrexham Road outfit, whose defensive shape was much improved, took the game to their opponents from the first whistle and deservedly opened the scoring when Richard Sadler broke through and drilled the ball into the top corner.

The impressive Joe Lunt, who controlled the midfield along with Eddie Barlow, should have doubled the advantage going into half-time and more chances went begging once the action resumed.

That wastefulness came back to haunt Malpas when Maine Road equalised on the hour and netted again nine minutes from time to settle the contest.
