CHESTER Nomads have made it through to the Cheshire Amateur Cup quarter-finals for the second time in three seasons.

John Cadwallader rung the changes for his side’s third-round showdown at home to Stockport Georgians on Saturday – but that did not stop them from progressing to the last-eight stage with a 1-0 win given to them by Andy Fitzgibbon.

Nomads, for whom Kieran Smith was sent off late, are the sole remaining Chester club left in the competition after Christleton were knocked out.

Out-of-form Malpas were knocked out of the Cheshire League President’s Cup on Saturday after a late goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at home to Maine Road Reserves.

Goalkeeper Elliot Saywell and defenders Jon Miles and Steve Watkins impressed for Malpas, who had striker Dominic O’Keeffe sent off just before Maine Road hit their winner.

Tarporley Victoria Reserves lost 2-1 at Barnton Wanderers in the Crewe & District League on Saturday.

Matt Dean pulled a goal back for Vics, for whom Nick Ball was named man of the match.

Saltney Ferry (Kevin Garland, William Dodd, Alan Hooley, Mike Marsh, Tom Rowlands) made it through to the third round of the North East Wales FA Sunday Cup with a 5-2 home win over Mountain Park. But Saltney Social Club (Aden Callaghan 2, Nathan Jones 2, Sam Buckley) were knocked out 6-5 by Acton Park.
