THE runaway success story that is Chester Nomads continued on Saturday.

John Cadwallader’s side marched into the Cheshire Amateur Cup semi-finals with a thumping 5-0 home victory over in-form league rivals Willaston.

Nomads – once more the last remaining Chester team in the esteemed competition – have enjoyed a rapid rise since Cadwallader took over the manager’s reins three years ago.

In his first campaign in charge the Boughton Hall outfit came desperately close to going up and reached two cup finals.

But it was last season in which Nomads proved why they are a growing force on the local football scene.

They won promotion to West Cheshire League Division One for the first time in the club’s history as well as winning the Chester & District FA Senior Cup.

Nomads have fared well in their debut campaign in the top flight.  It is their performances in the Cheshire Amateur Cup, however, that have really caught the eye.

Willaston came into Saturday’s quarter-final tie on the back a stunning 6-2 league success at Mossley Hill Athletic.  But they had no answer to a rampant home side led by the returning Kieran Smith.

An own goal and strikes from man-of-the-match Smith, Danny Davies, Danny Owen and Jack Delgado swept Nomads into the last four and a semi-final showdown with Cammell Laird at their Kirklands home.

Boss Cadwallader said: “The lads started very brightly and the game was over at half-time as we were 3-0 up.

“All credit to Willaston, they had a real go at us and that made for a good game. But unfortunately for them they came up against a good side who were on fire on the day.”

The other semi-final will be an all-Wirral affair with West Kirby taking on Heswall.
