Chester FC Hall of Fame member Michael Wilde demonstrated his lethal touch in front of goal with a Champions League hat-trick on Tuesday night.

Birkenhead-born Wilde inspired The New Saints to a 4-1 win over B36 Torshavn in the Champions League first qualifying round second leg.

Wilde had scored a last minute winner in last week's first leg as the Welsh Premier League champions returned from the Faroe Islands with a 2-1 advantage.

The 31-year-old, who found the net 46 times in 66 games for the Blues, scored twice in the first-half last night before completing his treble two minutes into the second period.

His goals have helped TNS progress past the first qualifying round for the first time since 2011. Craig Harrison's team face Hungarian club Videoton in the next round.

Wilde told BBC Radio Wales Sports after the game: " First and foremost the performance was what we wanted and the goals were a bonus. Even to grab one in the Champions' League is delightful but to get three is something special.

"We started really well. We had a plan, we had a remit and the lads stuck to it and got the reward - and now we go on to the next phase.

"I hope [I get to keep the ball] so I'm going to have to ask someone to grab for that for us - it would be good to keep that as a memento.

"We've had big occasions before against Liverpool and Man City and I was involved in those with TNS and and this is up there with that because you don't just get the occasion but we get the victory and we get the taste for it."

Neil Young brought Wilde to Chester from Fleetwood Town in July 2010 and the striker scored a hat-trick in the fan-owned club's first home league match, a 6-0 win against Trafford.

Wilde ended the campaign with 36 goals in 43 league games as the Blues clinched the Evo-Stik Division One North title in a nail-biting finale at Garforth.

Although injuries restricted his appearances the following season, Wilde was part of the Chester squad that won the Evo-Stik Premier Division title.

He scored 46 goals in 66 games in all competitions before switching to TNS in summer 2012.

Wilde became the 13th member of the Chester FC Hall of Fame when he was inducted in November 2014.
