LUIS SUAREZ is relishing the prospect of his South American shootout with Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez at Anfield tomorrow.

Both strikers are looking to put their problems of last season behind them with Tevez back in favour at City having repaired his relationship with boss Roberto Mancini.

Suarez revealed the sight of the Argentinian terrorising defenders in the Premier League played a part in his decision to move to Anfield from Ajax in January 2011.

“Yes, I watched Tevez when I was playing in Holland and I could see he was doing really well,” said Suarez (below).

“That was one of the things that really motivated me to come and play in the Premier League. I thought that if Tevez can do really well, then I could do too because I have a similar physical stature.

“Carlos is a mature person and has sorted out his problems. He’s an excellent player and everyone in England is enjoying watching him play at this moment.

“Given the way we play, South American players should have no problems whatsoever settling into the English game.”

Suarez knows Liverpool don’t have the resources to compete financially with the champions but insists given time they will challenge them.

“City have spent their money very well,” he added. “They won the title last season and deserved to do so because they were the best team.

“What I also know is that everyone here is proud to play for Liverpool. And I believe this club can win the Premier League if we do everything right. Whether that’s this season I don’t know at this current time but we will improve.”
