1973: Born July 31 in Maclean, New South Wales, Australia.

1993: Makes the first of 120 appearances for St George Dragons, including the 1993 and 1996 Grand Finals.

1999: Embarks on another 52 matches for the merged St George Illawarra club, including the 1999 Grand Final.

2001: Forced to retire from playing after sustaining a neck injury in a trial game.

2003: Takes over as head coach of St George Illawarra, becoming the youngest non-playing coach in NRL history at the age of 29.

2008: Told his contract will not be renewed as the club move for Wayne Bennett and in July unveiled by Huddersfield as their successor to Jon Sharp.

2009: Takes the Giants to the Challenge Cup final at Wembley in his first season in Super League, losing to St Helens.

2010: Reverses a decision to return to Australia, pledging to see out his initial three-year contract and guides Huddersfield to within 80 minutes of a maiden Super League Grand Final.

2011: Signs a 12-month contract extension and takes the Giants to another top-four finish but announces in December he will be leaving the club, who appoint his assistant Paul Anderson as his successor.

2012: St Helens announce he will become their new coach at the end of the season when his contract with Huddersfield expires.
