DEAN Stokes has demanded consistency and character from his players after they went down at Bradford on Saturday.

DEAN Stokes has demanded consistency and character from his players after they went down at Bradford on Saturday.

The Bullets more than matched the promotion hopefuls for spells of the game, but were undone in moments of shoddy play.

Stokes said: 'They were not three goals better than us. We are not far short, but we need to be able to go to places and produce a 90-minute performance.

'The scoreline flattered them and I would say their third and fourth goals were questionable. But we are not strong enough or defending well enough.

'We have to be prepared to do the dirty work as well as playing the nice football. We have made a lot of changes and new players have to gel.

'But you find out who your strong characters are when the wind is against you, the referee is making debatable decisions and the other team is putting on pressure.'

Town were not helped when Karl Espley sliced a cross into his own net for his third own goal of the season, after just eight minutes.

Then winger Ashley Miller had to go off with a dead leg, but his side drew level after 36 minutes when Crewe Alex loan kid Amari Morgan-Smith crossed for Chris Budrys to head his 20th goal of the season.
