HE HAS already been a visitor to Finch Farm – and the prospect of Jurgen Klinsmann becoming a regular fixture at Everton’s training ground has got the bookies in a lather.

The former German international striker turned globe-trotting manager has surged from the outer limits of the odds-list to a 4-1 prospect to replace David Moyes.

Irish bookmaker Paddy Power started tweeting about a rush of money being placed on the 48-year-old on Monday, and Klinsmann then stoked rumours himself by following the Blues from his own Twitter account.

The fact that the former Tottenham striker had also recently followed the accounts of German club Schalke 04 and sportswear giant Nike was ignored, as his name suddenly became the red-hot tip to take the reins at Goodison.

There was enough to make the speculation seem logical too. Klinsmann is fond of the Toffees, and has visited Finch Farm to discuss Tim Howard’s progress in the past.

He is also an admirer of out-going boss Moyes, saying in 2011: “David is known within coaching circles as being someone who’s constantly learning and constantly curious.

“He always wants to know where the next edge in psychology, scouting, science, whatever. That’s what a good manager is about, he’s a constant learner. And David Moyes is a very good learner.

“If you don’t have the resources like the big, big teams have to go out and spend millions on the next big player, you have to be even more on top of the other areas in order to get the most out of your players and to compete with the big clubs.”

But despite the fevered speculation, Stateside football experts believe the current boss of the US men’s national team is unlikely to be on his way to Merseyside.

Klinsmann is paid $2.5m-a-year in his current role, and is only a year away from hoping to take the US to the next World Cup in Brazil.

And US Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati is reportedly delighted with the German’s performance so far – meaning he would be unlikely to let him walk away. If Everton did want to poach the former German national coach, they likely be asked to pay a premium in compensations – something else which should cool the rumours.

He certainly can’t be discounted – but there’s every chance his odds will have drifted and someone else will be linked with the Everton job in the time it took to read this piece.
