VAUXHALL Motors’ relegation fears heightened on Tuesday when they lost 4-0 at home to Boston United.

The damage was done in the first half as the former Football League outfit scored four times in the opening 41 minutes to wrap up the points.

Furious Motors manager Carl Macauley rang the changes at the break. He brought on Scott Phelan, Jonathan Egerton and new signing Fraser Ablett – the son of late former Liverpool and Everton defender Gary Ablett – in place of Louis Horne, Liam Wynn and John Lawless.

But while the hosts improved after the restart, they rarely threatened the Boston goal with their only chance of note coming when Tranmere Rovers loanee Cole Stockton was denied from point-blank range.

Macauley’s men, who remain third from bottom in the Blue Square North, lost 2-1 at Gloucester City last Saturday.

Craig Mahon had opened the scoring for Motors, who are away to play-off pushing Gainsborough Trinity this Saturday (3pm).

Malpas returned to Cheshire League Division Two action on Saturday with a superb 3-2 win at Runcorn Town Reserves.

Two goals down at the interval, Malpas kick-started a second-half fightback in the 58th minute after the hosts had a man sent-off.

Dan Tinsley and Joe Sumner made it 2-2 before the visitors sealed victory through Jordon Roberts .
