IT promises to be a great occasion at Brighton’s new Amex Stadium on Wednesday night.

There will be a 21,000 sell out for the Championship leaders’ Carling Cup tie with the Reds.

Excitement on the south coast is building with fans having camped out overnight to land the final few tickets for the first meeting between the clubs in more than 20 years.

Brighton are flying under Gus Poyet after winning League One last season and will pose a real threat to Liverpool’s hopes of going all the way to Wembley.

Of course the Seagulls have previous for giving the Reds cup heartache.

In both 1983 and 1984 they dumped them out of the FA Cup. On that first occasion ex-Red Jimmy Case famously grabbed the winner at Anfield.

On Wednesday Brighton’s Scouse duo Craig Noone and Alan Navarro will be looking to follow in Case’s footsteps.
