HIGHFIELD Athletic almost threw away a 4-0 lead before easing into the semi-finals of the Chester FA Cup.

They were pegged back to 4-3 by visitors Hoole Rangers, but then they stepped on the gas again to run out 8-3 winners. Four goals for Adam Langton, two for Ross Broadbent and singles from Neil Fields and Matty Carline sent Highfield into the last four.

Tarvin Athletic crashed out in a penalty shoot-out to Chester Nomads 2nds 4-2. They finished 2-2 after extra time with Paul Broster and Matt Edwards on target for Tarvin, who lost their nerve in the shoot-out.

Kelsall shared the points at home to Castrol Social in the Queensferry Sports Premier Division. Goals by Matt Bolton and James Thompson (2) for Kelsall were cancelled out by Castrol’s Tom Riley, Tom Craig and Mark Hampson as it ended 3-3.

Newton Bears also split the points in a 3-3 draw against Waggon & Horses.

Mike Edwards (2) and Nathan Mapletoft scored for Newton, while Steve Dee, Warren Roberts and Jordan Sharp replied for Waggon.

In Olympic Trophies Division One, Saughall Thursday narrowly beat Ashton Lions 3-2. Lions’ Lee Williams and Paul Curran scored.

Cestrian Alex fell to a 3-0 home defeat against Robin Hood with goals from Jake Harrison, Paddy Bleakley and Glen George.

Frodsham United beat Highfield Athletic 2nds 7-3 with goals from Sean Harrington (5), Colin Anderton and Antony Dobin. Matty Cross (2) and Scott Broadbent hit the net for Highfield.

Lee Guirdo scored twice and Dan Ronald once for Duddon United as they beat hosts Park- gate 3-2. Andy Marr and Patrick Sarjent found the net for Park- gate.

DevaWeb Services Division Two saw MBCS draw 3-3 with Moneysupermarket.com. Adi Martin (2) and Paul Cunningham scored for MBCS, Barry Loughran (2) and Rob Brown for the visitors.

Vicars Cross Doves suffered a 14-0 loss to visiting Pensby.

In Chesterfest Division Three, Kelma beat Frodsham Vets 4-1. Lodge Bar beat Crossway Reserves 3-1 with strikes from Andy Graham (2) and Andy Hall. Saughall Thursday Reserves lost 5-2 at home to Manor Athletic. Phil Lloyd and Jason Little scored for Saughall, Eddie Atkins (3) and Chris Tolley (2) won it for Manor.

Uberlube also lost at home, 9-3 to Willaston Nomads.

West Meters emerged 3-2 winners against Halfway House Celtic. Danny Cullen (2) and John Laurence sealed the win. Mark Cummin and John Irmston scored for Halfway.
