AIRBUS UK Broughton FC are celebrating a victory that will almost certainly see them qualify for Europe for the first time in their 67-year history.

The Broughton club beat top-two rivals Bangor City 2-0 on Saturday to effectively seal second spot in the Corbett Sports Welsh Premier League and the Europa League place that comes with it.

The only way Andy Preece’s second-placed side would miss out is if they lost their final game of the season away to Port Talbot Town – and third-placed Bangor won theirs, away to champions The New Saints, and overturned a 20-goal deficit in the process.

Preece, who took over as Airbus’ director of football in January 2012, said: “We knew there were four places for Europe, so we always thought we had a chance, but we never said ‘we’re going to do it’.

“We’ve come here with a three-year plan and 18 months down the line we’ve hit the target, now the big thing is trying to stay there and kicking on from here.

“It was probably our best performance of the season and you have to be at your best to beat Bangor at any time.”
