AIRBUS UK Broughton’s Craig Harrison has signed a former Premier League star to bolster his side’s bid for a top-10 finish – and is adamant that skipper Danny Desormeaux is going nowhere.

Jamie Smith was in the same Crystal Palace team as Harrison and the Wingmakers boss hopes the 35-year-old defender’s experience can help his side cross the Welsh Premier League finish line this season.

“It’s a great signing and he gives us everything we haven’t got at the moment,” said Harrison.

“It gives us experience, it gives us a talker, an organiser and a leader, as well as just the pure footballing qualities alone.”

And Harrison was quick to scotch rumours linking midfielder Desormeaux with former club Cammell Laird.

“There’s never been any doubt Danny is staying,” said Harrison. “I don’t know where the rumour started. We’ve had contact with Lairds and they’ve denied any knowledge of it, they’ve not approached the player and there has been no official approach from the club. I can only put it down to people trying to cause trouble.

“Danny’s a contracted player as well. At this point of the season, you don’t want your best players distracted. There’s no doubt about it that Danny’s one of the best players in the league.”

Airbus now face a crucial home double-header against two of the league’s strongest sides in the space of four days.

The 10th-placed Wingmakers’ midweek trip to Bangor City was postponed for the second time this season, and now Harrison is preparing his players for the visit of fourth-placed Aberystwyth Town on Saturday (2.30pm) and second-placed Llanelli on Tuesday (7.30pm).
