Chester FC have re-signed Fleetwood Town forward Matty Hughes on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year old has been lured back to the Swansway Chester Stadium by boss Steve Burr and could feature in the clash at Southport on Saturday.

Burr said: "We're naturally pleased that we've got Matty back. We've kept an eye on him since he went back to Fleetwood, and they have since strengthened which means he'd dropped down the pecking order there. It's been a game of patience but we have him until the end of the season, so that's really good for us."

Hughes made an excellent impression in his initial two-month loan spell with the Blues before being recalled by Fleetwood following the win over AFC Telford United in December. Chester have won just once in nine matches since.

The forward scored five times in his nine appearances, although he did miss three games through suspension after being sent off in the defeat at Eastleigh.

He was the player Chester fans said they would most like to see the club sign in the January transfer window, according to an online survey carried out by The Chronicle earlier this month.

Chester are waiting on confirmation from the FA and League over whether Hughes will be available for selection at Southport.
