Steve Burr is relishing renewing his competitive rivalry with Kevin Wilkin on Monday night.

Burr and Wrexham boss Wilkin clashed at the end of the goalless draw between the clubs back in April.

Wrexham, who had nothing to play for, stuck men behind the ball and showed little appetite to get forward, frustrating a Blues side desperate for points.

Burr later said he had allowed frustration to get the better of him but his reaction evidenced his fierce will to win and he would love to get one over his opposite number in front of the BT Sport cameras.

Burr said: “Last season to be involved in that was probably the best derby I’ve been involved with at this level of football.

“I’m looking forward to locking horns with Kevin again and hopefully we can come out on top and get another three points in front of our fans.”

Wrexham have still to beat the club a section of their support branded a ‘pub team’ in 2008 but will start as favourites on Monday.

Wilkin’s side recorded a fine 1-0 win at Barnet on Tuesday and are sixth in the Vanarama Conference table.

Summer signings Louis Moult and Connor Jennings are starting to show promise as a partnership and another new recruit Wes York has been in impressive form.

Wilkin praised his players for their resilience and work rate at The Hive.

He said after the win: “To come to a difficult place like this, to see the opening 10 or 15 minutes, to stick to our guns and be as resolute as we were

“That’s the sort of resolve and character you have to show at places like this, as they are not top of the league for nothing.

“Just to stay in the game at important periods, for a side that is young, is tremendous.

“ I’m delighted for everyone concerned and it’s a nice result on the road.

“Hopefully it sets us up for Chester on Monday.”

Wilkin has doubts over former Chester City midfielder Jay Harris, who has a suspected hernia, but captain Dean Keates could return after being sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Teenager Rob Evans will deputise if Harris fails to recover.
