Chester FC are kicking off a 'crowd funding' project which will allow fans to inject cash directly into boss Steve Burr's transfer budget.

The scheme, similar to those run by the Blues' National League rivals Grimsby Town and Lincoln City, will be reliant on donations from supporters.

It will be known as 'Steve Burr had a dream', a reference to the popular terrace song, and will launch at 10am on Monday.

Blues assistant manager Jon McCarthy said: “We recognise how much our supporters already contribute to allow us to put a team out on the pitch that can compete at this level. We will never take that for granted.

“It is your community, your city, your club. If you have £1, or £20 or £100 to contribute it will all go towards the team that you see playing on your pitch each week. We don’t want to put a minimum or maximum donation out there, we want it to be something inclusive for every person in our community.

“Myself, the gaffer and the players new and old all thank you for your amazing support already, and that it is a privilege to wear your shirt.

"Together everyone achieves more.”

Fans will be able to make their donations via a special Crowdfunder website, where they will also be able to purchase exclusive rewards which will help boost funds for the playing squad for the 2015/16 season.

The club will also take 'offline' donations in the ticket office and the club shop.

The Crowdfunder site is not 'live' yet but the club plans to announce further details of when it will be over the weekend.

Grimsby launched a crowdfunder scheme last year with the aim of raising £20,000. They ended up making more than £110,000.
