Steve Burr shares supporters’ frustration at the convoluted sequence of events that has left his in-form Chester team with a blank weekend.

Nine points, eight goals scored and just one conceded from three games means there is a real momentum about the Blues at the moment yet that will be interrupted on Saturday.

Dartford had been down to visit the Swansway Chester Stadium for a Vanarama Conference fixture but that has been postponed as the Kent club have an FA Trophy third-round replay at FC Haliax Town to attend to.

That game has already been called off three times because of an unfit pitch at The Shay and with the surface frozen and temperatures forecast to remain low the prospect of the tie going ahead on Saturday must be considered remote.

However, the two clubs have been told the game must be played this week with the winners expected to host Gateshead or Wrexham in the fourth-round on Tuesday.

It is a complex and confusing situation which has left fans, players and the manager feeling miffed.

“It’s disappointing from our point of view but there’s not much we can do about the weather,” Burr told The Chronicle.

“I believe Halifax’s pitch has not been helped by the rugby and it’s out of our control but somewhere down the line the game has got to be played, whether that be at Halifax or somewhere else.

“When you are on a decent run like we are then you just want to play as much as you can and obviously we would much rather have a game than a break.”

Chester came from a goal down to win 3-1 at Welling United on Saturday thanks to a John Rooney brace and Oliver McBurnie after Reece Harris had given the Wings the lead at Park View Road.

It was a result and a performance which helped convince the manager there was no need to get caught up in the transfer window scramble, although Josh Green has gone back to Fleetwood Town after his month-long loan came to an end.

“When you think that last year we went down to Welling and couldn’t even beat them when they were down to 10 men it was pleasing,” said Burr.

“Our last three performances have been very good and very encouraging.

“I think the new signings we have brought in have given everybody at the club a lift but also given the other lads who’ve been with us since the start of the season a kick-start too.

“We had made a few little enquiries here and there but we didn’t really pursue them and that’s down to the lads who have come in and done so well.

“Josh was a bit unlucky really because we had a couple of games postponed and the side has been playing well so he didn’t really get a lot of time but I will say his attitude while he was with us was excellent and he’s one we will keep an eye on at Fleetwood.”
