Chester FC have made their first signing of the close season by snapping up striker Sean McConville from Conference North side Stalybridge Celtic.

Blues boss Steve Burr raided his former club to bring McConville, 25, to the Swansway Chester Stadium, with the striker the first piece of the jigsaw as Burr looks to build a squad to bounce back to the Conference Premier at the first time of asking.

Lancastrian McConville has Football League experience on his CV, having played for Accrington Stanley, Rochdale and Stockport County, after beginning his career at Skelmersdale United, where he bagged 15 goals in 30 outings.

From Skem he signed for Stanley, playing 76 times and scoring 14 before he signed for Edgeley Park outfit Stockport County in 2011, netting four goals in 25 games. He had a brief four game spell on loan at Rochdale in 2012.

McConville then moved on to Barrow in 2012, turning down the opportunity to link up with ex-Chester City manager Mark Wright at Stephen Vaughan's Maltese side Floriana, in favour of a stint at Holker Street.

Under Dave Bayliss, however, McConville could not reproduce his best goal-scoring form and failed to find the net in his 25 outings, moving to Bower Fold at the beginning of 2013/2014 campaign.

He fared better under Keith Briggs stewardship at Bower Fold, where current Blues boss Burr was manager between 2007 and 2010, bagging 11 times as Celtic finished just above the relegation zone.
