A Year 11 pupil at Abbey Gate College is on the ball where his football career is concerned.

Francois Antoine has signed academy forms for Oldham Athletic Football Club.

According to his teachers, Franc has been in outstanding form this season playing just behind the forward line or as an out and out striker.

He plays for the college team and Cheshire Under 16s in a number of representative games.

Franc’s deal with Oldham Athletic means he will now train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings with matches at the weekend, as well as still playing for Cheshire and for the college when available.

Franc will know by February next year whether Oldham wish to offer him a professional contract.

He is following hot in the footsteps of former college pupil Billy Reeves, who, after spending two years with Port Vale FC playing in their youth teams, has recently signed his first professional contract with the club.

A spokesperson for the college said: “We wish Franc all the best for the months ahead. It is always rewarding when talent and hard work brings about much deserved success.”
