Northwest Flyfishers hosted their annual prize dinner at The Goshawk in Mouldsworth on Saturday where Jim Jervis of Ellesmere Port and Phil Burgess of Frodsham netted the top honours.

Jervis claimed the overall bank champion crown while Burgess was named as boat champion.

The biggest fish of the 2014 season was taken by Ron Powell of Frodsham, with a rainbow trout just missing the double figure mark, weighing in at an impressive 9lb 15oz and caught at Ellerdine in Shropshire.

Powell also won the JC Clarke and Son shield for the November trip to Ellerdine and shared the spoils of the Les Dutton Boat Pairs trophy with Jervis at the trip to Stocks Reservoir in the Forest of Bowland in May.

Trier of the Year, given to the most improved angler, fell to Pete Blythin of Frodsham. Simon Smith of Malpas, hooked the coveted Clubman of the Year accolade.

The Frodsham-based club, now in it’s 34th year, has close to 30 members of various ages and abilities from across Cheshire and is actively looking for new members to join for the 2015 season.

Eleven venues are fished over the course the year, with bank and boat matches taking place across the North West.

Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 8pm in Frodsham Conservative Club. For more information contact the club on Facebook, searching ‘Northwest Flyfishers’ or on Twitter @nwflyfishers Alternatively, call Ian on 07743446691 or email nwflyfishers@gmail.com
