WISTASTON Village suffered a stuttering start to their Cheshire Alliance Division One campaign with defeat at Kingsley.

Having won the toss skipper Peter Aspinall elected to bat first, but Wistaston were soon in trouble having lost half their side for just 29 runs.

Paul Owen (14) and Aspinall (11) were the only players to reach double figures until James Hogben arrived to contribute a bludgeoning innings of 23 not out, including a six and three fours, to add 25 runs for the last wicket, as they were all out for 87 after 38.5 overs.

In reply Kingsley required just 28.2 overs to rattle off 90 runs to clinch victory, for the loss of one wicket.

J Elliot (29 not out) and N Rowlands (48no) were among the runs for the hosts. Wistaston's Chris Townsend took 1-4 from an economical nine overs.

Bunbury and Sandbach shared the spoils in their clash. Bunbury batted first and posted 214-7 with Simon Lamb cracking 75.

In reply, Sandbach reached 156-9 with Chris Tomlinson smashing 86 and Bob Harris taking 5-17 for Bunbury.

Aston were crushed by Stalybridge St Pauls, after being skittled all out for 40 in 26 overs, after batting first. The visitors cruised to 44-2 in just 13 overs.

In Division Two, Audlem were comfortably beaten by visitors Saughall, who had batted first and made 141-8 with M Huxley (47).

In reply, Audlem were bowled out for 68 with captain Steve Swallow top-scoring on 36.

In the Meller Braggins League Division One, Andy Latham scored the winning runs for Cholmondeley in his first game as skipper.

Latham had won the toss and asked visitors Weaverham to bat first. Bowlers Neil Thompson (1-17), Ben Briscoe (2-33), Richard Cooke (2-38) and Ed Mason (4-58) all showed fine early season form to restrict the visitors to 163-9 off 45 overs.

In reply, all Cholmondeley batsmen reached double figures as they scored the necessary 164-7. Luca Heritage (22), Guy Ford (26) top scored before Thompson hit two big sixes to take them close. Latham was left to apply the final touch.

In Division Three, Holmes Chapel's match with Old Parkonians was cancelled due to poor conditions.

It was a washout for local teams in the CD Bramhall Trucks Cheshire County League, with both Nantwich's Premier Division clash with Christleton, and Alsager's Division One visit to Timperley, falling victim to the weather.
