RUNCORN marched to victory in the Meller Braggins Cheshire League's Division One at Barrow.

This was thanks to a good all-round bowling effort and an unbroken century stand by their opening batsmen.

Barrow were restricted to 122-9 dec with Ste Sheakey taking 4-39 and Iain Williams 2-14.

Jamie Hill (1-27) and Tony White (1-22) chipped in.

The visitors then wasted no time in reaching their target, knocking off the runs in only Dave Moore finished on 76no with Andy Booth unbeaten on 39.

Runcorn collected 20 points to the hosts' one.

On Sunday, Runcorn beat Frodsham in the annual memorial game for former Moughland Lane player and official Matt Shaw. nAlvanley's opening batsmen Mark Szymura and Nick McKay were also in blistering form at home to CH Ladybridge.

They helped their team to secured a maximum 25-15.5 overs. points victory and with it promotion from Meller Braggins CCL Division Two.

Knowing the quality of opening bowler Bishop, the hosts targeted his partner Butterworth and took 39 runs off his six overs with some imperious straight drives to the boundary.

The change bowlers were similarly despatched as 92 runs came from the first 20 overs.

McKay reached his half-century first after facing just 63 deliveries, but Szymura soon followed his lead.

The latter was dismissed lbw for 76 in the 35th over with the partnership at 175.

The highlight of his innings was an superb straight six.

John Farmer pushed singles while McKay continued the onslaught, reaching his second century of the season before being bowled for 116.

A couple of wickets were lost in the final over as Alvanley closed at 240-4.

Mark Leadbetter trapped opener Moores in the eighth over and James Rowlinson bowled Clarke in the next.

The visitors were in trouble at 17-2 and never recovered. Peter Pearce took his fifth five-wicket haul of the season and Leadbetter returned to claim the last two victims with his first two deliveries.

Alvanley 2nd XI drew at Old Parkonians, scoring 141-7 in reply to 210-5.

For the visitors, Iolo Savill hit two sixes in his 56 which came at more than one a ball.

Twelve-year-old Ben Pearce faced 90 deliveries for 16no while Colin Gee (21no) successfully batted out time. nKingsley's promotion bid finally evaporated with defeat at Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division One leaders Chelford.

Kieron Ollier (25) and Alex Hatt (31) contributed well to a below-par 93.

A rampant Jonny Ollier gave Kingsley hope by dismissing the dangerous Weston for a third-ball duck, but the South Cheshire side scrambled a victory despite a few scares.

Ollier finished with 3-21, the other three wickets being claimed by Adrian Burden.
