CHESTER County Officers moved top of Meller Braggins League Division Two on Saturday with a five-wicket home win over Trafford MV.

CCO’s fourth successive victory was just reward for the club members who turned up early to make the pitch playable after a wet week.

The hosts won the toss and asked Trafford to bat on a wicket that still had damp areas across it.

The visitors rode their luck before Steve Johnson (2-47) claimed both of their openers.

The spin of Mike Rowlands and Ian Rule took over from Johnson and Mike Clarke (1-32) and wickets started to tumble straight away.

Rowlands ended with 2-13 from four overs while Rule took a magnificent 5-5 from his five as Trafford were dismissed for 130.

The reply started slowly but Rowlands (70no) and Chris Wright (32) took the score to 80 before the former rattled 18 off four balls to see CCO to 133-5.

Kingsley slipped to second after their trip to Lymm Oughtrington Park was rained off.

Cholmondeley (146-6) were four- wicket winners at home to Barton (142-7dec) but Bunbury (61) were well beaten at home by Woodford (229-2dec).

Barrow (51) lost at home to Pott Shrigley (148) in Division Three.
