NEXT summer can't come quickly enough Malpas!

Jonny Suckley's side won promotion to Division Two of the Murray Smith Cheshire County League on Saturday thanks to a home draw with champions Prestbury.

Malpas would have leapfrogged Prestbury and taken the Division One title had they won, but the draw was enough to see them hold on to the second promotion spot.

Malpas chairman John Davies said: 'It will be the first time the club has played at such a high level and everyone is looking forward to the challenge.

'We were disappointed to miss out on the title but promotion has more than made up for it.'

Malpas' batting strength has been a feature of their season and the men at the top of the order were again in fine form against Prestbury.

The hosts made 234-3 after losing the toss and being put into bat, captain Suckley (107) and Aussie Jack Scascighini (79) sharing in an opening stand of 164.

Scascighini's half-century was enough to see him set a new Division One scoring record, his total of 1,116 runs for the season surpassing Ashley batsman Steve Tyrell's 11-year-old record of 1,037.

Mark Dunning chipped in with a useful 20no before Prestbury replied with a stubborn 176-6. Neil Tong claimed 2-47 off 11 overs.

Cholmondeley celebrating after overcoming Lymm to win Division Two - and it was tense spectacle.

Skipper Mark Jones won the toss and put Lymm into bat, who scored 150-9 (Ben Briscoe 3-34, Robbie Brown 2-47, Rich Cooke 1-11, Russ Walker 2-20, John Williams 1-28)

Lymm contained the Chums to 76-6 until Jones and Ben Briscoe took the score to 134-6. Jones was bowled for 30 at 146-7 before Robbie Brown and Andy Latham guided the team home with one over to spare after a stunning run of 12 wins in 14 matches.

Alvanley were pipped to top spot despite cruising to victory over visitors Wirral, who won the toss and elected to bat first.

Mark Leadbetter took two early wickets before the deadly combination of Peter Pearce and Phil Jones choked the life out of the rest of the Wirral batsmen. Pearce took 4-20 to finish with 71 wickets for the season and Jones claimed 3-14.

In reply, Alvanley lost both openers inside the first six overs but Glenn Pickersgill (30) and Cei Sanderson (31no) steadied the ship to steer their side to a seven-wicket victory by 4pm!

Alvanley seconds lost at bottom-of-the-table Weaverham. Both teams were relegated. nIn Division Three, Castrol claimed a top-four finish and ended the season on a high with a win at home to Port Sunlight.
