CREWE'S five-match un-beaten run came to an end when they were beaten by 111 runs at Sandyford on Saturday.

The home side batted first and Crewe professional Ranadeb Bose made an early breakthrough in the Division One clash thanks to a good catch by Mike Holt.

However, Stefan Shemilt (85) and Mark Leese (35) put on 101 before Bose claimed the latter as his second scalp.

With Nick Lange unavailable and Matt Dawson unfit to bowl due to injury, Bose and left-arm spinner Martin Webb (3-72) both bowled long spells.

Sandyford seemed set for a huge total at 166-3, but a direct hit by Chris Lange ran out Shemilt and turned the tide. The last seven wickets went down for 52 as Bose returned figures of 6-55.

Mike Holt (16) opened Crewe's reply and cracked a quartet of fours before getting caught out. Four more wickets left his side in trouble at 43-5.

Mark Hurst (17) battled hard, while Dawson (12), Richard Marsh (17), David Hurst (10) and Webb (10) could not pull off a great escape, as Crewe were all out for 107.

Also in Division One, Dave Palin cracked 58 as Elworth climbed out of the basement with a win over high-flying Cheadle.

In the field, home side Elworth kept the scoring down and Andrew Shaw was the first to crack, edging a ball from Paul Crompton to keeper Tarek Alam for 20.

Murray Ranger embarked on a solo effort, catching Adam Alcock (23) and Alex Bonehill for a duck, both off his own bowling, and Cheadle were restricted to 220-6 off 58.4 overs.

Kevin Underwood (22) retired injured after he and Pete Davies (37) had made a positive start to Elworth's reply.

Ranger made a quickfire 43, while Palin looked imperious as he smashed seven fours and a six. But when they both exited, Elworth were dawdling on 172-3.

Rob Beech and Alan Wright decided to attack, leaving Wright to carve two sixes and two fours from the last five balls to wrap up the game with 222-3.

Betley scraped a draw with Norton. The visitors declared on 245-4, with Artif Zaidi 3-51. Adrian Butler hit 53 as Betley clung on at 130-9.

In Division Two, Haslington were denied a vital win by a determined Bignall End outfit, at Clay Lane. Richard Bebbington (48), Sohail Tanvir (23), Dean Bedson (38) and Mo Ali (32) all contributed well as the hosts batted first. And a superb unbeaten knock of 47 from eighth man Jonny Phipps took the score to an imposing 267-7 after 55 overs.

Tanvir (4-90) made an early breakthrough when he removed S Howle (2), and fellow opener A Howle (12) fared little better as Dave Moreton struck.

But Tahir Mughal was solid as a rock as he steadily made his way to 105. Tom Gledhill (2-28) and More-ton (2-48) made inroads but Bignall earned a share of the spoils with 200-9 at the close.

Weston were undone by promotion-chasing Silverdale despite setting a challenging target of 240ao. Skipper Mike Chester (64) led the way, before Saad Wasim smashed a superb 112 which featured 16 fours and three sixes. Masir Khan claimed 5-64.

In their reply, the visitors stead-ily chipped their way to victory. Wasim returned 2-35 but was powerless to stop Silverdale reaching 243-5. nSecond team scores - Division One: Cheadle 170ao (T Harwood 5-42) Elworth 227-9ic (Ross Steven 30, Kev Ballard 35); Crewe 210-6(dec) ( R Hancock 42, A War-burton 51 not out, R Wilson 42) Sandyford 93ao (E Bishop 3-25); Norton 236-8 (N Harrison 3-27) Betley 188ao (A Dunbarral 84).
