HARTFORD staged a remarkable rescue through a young batsman and their 71-year-old chairman John Prew.

Kingsley had expected to struggle to defend a modest total but instead they whipped through the Hartford wickets until the shellshocked visitors teetered on 33-8 after only 20 overs (Adrian Burden 5-37).

That brought Prew together with 18-year-old Josh Spruce who, with free licence, launched six huge sixes in an innings of 51.

He departed at 94-9 with 14 overs to go and Prew was then joined by son Graham, who took over where Spruce left off.

The father and son pairing held out, Prew Jnr boasting 37 not out and dad pleased with his unbeaten and vital 11.

Earlier Hartford had kept chipping away at the Kingsley innings through Brian Harkin (3-71) and Matt Shinkfield (3-41).
