Chester Boughton Hall regained their composure following last weekend’s defeat to Hyde by claiming a solid victory at home to Grappenhall.

At Filkins Lane, Lancashire’s Jordan Clark (5-40) and Aussie Josh Henderson (5-52) helped lead Hall’s bowling offensive as they dismissed the visitors for just 92 from 33.2 overs to claim a seven-wicket triumph.

The seam attack caught the visitors cold, with the pair bowling an impressive 12 maidens between them, with Clark bowling seven and Henderson five.

Mark Rowlands got Hall off to an excellent start at the crease and set them on their way to a comfortable victory as he notched 43, while Warren Goodwin knocked 26.

Hall captain Lee Dixon, who praised the efforts of the club ground staff in getting the game on, said: “Josh and Jordan were fantastic and I think that the five or six breaks we had for rain probably helped us out a little bit.

“Everytime you thought they were tiring a little, we had a break and Josh and Jordan came out and were refreshed and firing again.

“Josh has settled in really well since he arrived before the season from Brisbane, and to have the likes of him and Jordan around the club is a real plus.

“Mark (Rowlands) batted beautifully and it was important for us to close the game out as quickly as we possibly could. Thankfully we did.”

Neston were beaten at home by Bowdon, with the visitors claiming a 40-run triumph in a low-scoring encounter. Richard Wilkinson’s 6-37 and Chris Hackett’s 30 were the highlights in a disappointing defeat where they were dismissed for just 86.

In Division One, Christleton’s home encounter with Brooklands and Oulton Park’s trip to Didsbury were both victims of the wet weather.

The miserable weather also played its part in the Division Two encounter between Tattenhall and Alvanely at The Flacca, with the game abandoned as play continued until after 8pm.

On a slow wicket, Tattenhall elected their visitors to bat first, and it looked to have paid off early on as the Alvanley opening trio fell for just 12 runs.

However, the visitors rallied and John Suckley hit 34 before being caught by home captain Robin Mulvihill, but Andy Bennion’s  57no and Andy Hayhurst (53no) helped the visitors to finish on 162-5.

Tattenhall started strongly, with the batting order in solid form, with Stuart Sadler opening on 20, John Gibbon adding 23 shortly after, with Dan Power and Sam Green (13) and Owen Williamson’s 16no leading the home side to 103-5 off 35 overs before bad light brought an end to proceedings, forcing the abandonment of the game.

Alvanley were awarded nine points while Tattenhall picked up seven.
