MIKE Pownall led an amazing comeback in Chester County Officers' contest with Wistaston.

Officers recovered from the depths of 45-7 on a lively pitch to record a score of 175-9 in the allotted 48 overs.

Ian Barlow notched 18, as did Andy Barlow, but the real hero was Pownall who held the rearguard action together to score a determined 65no.

John Coppock contributed 26 and Graham Wilks put the icing on the cake with 12no.

Paceman Chris Townsend then put in an awesome performance to take 6-43 in 21 overs before three quick wickets fell to Andy Barlow (2-20 in 12 overs) and Steve Johnson (3-38).

Pownall hit the stumps with the last ball of the game to claim the seventh wicket, and although Wistaston had reached 137-7, Officers took 14 points.

Kingsley nearly snatched victory at the end of an enthralling encounter at Woodford.

Butcher (59) and Rowlands (33) laid firm foundations and rapid scoring by Kieron Ollier (68no) and Ed Leneghan (31no) ensured Kingsley declared on 212-3.

The pitch seemed lifeless after the interval and with 10 overs to go, Woodford were firm favourites.

Burden then returned to take three quick wickets to set up a thrilling last over with 11 needed to win.

But a wicket off the first ball persuaded bottom side Woodford to block out for the draw at 203-8.

Bunbury won by nine wickets at Ellesmere Port. The Port were bowled out for 83 with Rob Harris taking 6-34.

Bunbury won the game with 84-1 with Lamb (39) and Swinbank unbeaten on 30no.

In Division Two, Frodsham recovered from a shaky start to overpower Eastham & Bromborough and win by 132 runs at Torr Park.

Frodsham found themselves at 12-3 but Ben Large (50) and Gav Houghton (70) came together and made a fighting recovery with a stand of 98.

Skipper Roger London (38) and Mark Done (9no) completed a total of 207-9.

Ben Large (3-21) and James Burton (3-17) then put the squeeze on Eastham.

With Eastham eyeing a draw, the pace of Matt Williamson and the guile of Nigel Billingham paid off as Jon Lewis took a fine catch and both bowlers claimed two wickets to have the Wirral side reeling at 59-9.

Ben Large took little time to claim the final wicket, leaving Eastham 75ao.

In Division Three, Saughall enjoyed a 119-run victory at Capenhurst.

Saughall made first use and posted 207-5 after 42 overs, with James Huxley (39) and Andy Thomas, who was lucky not be dismissed on his first ball, (66) top-scoring. In reply, Capenhurst were bowled out for 88 with Reid hitting 33.

Saughall's Mike Andrews took 4-20 including the prize scalp of Capenhurst's skipper on his first ball, thanks to a full-length swinging delivery and a terrific reflex at first slip by birthday boy Brian Huxley.
