SKIPPER Rob Mulvihill saluted his Tattenhall players after they returned to the Cheshire County League at the first attempt on Saturday.

Danny Ahmad hit a six over the pavilion at CHOLMONDELEY to clinch victory - and the Division One title.

Mulvihill said: 'We batted exceptionally well this year. That, combined with a lot of won tosses, allowed us to chase down most of the totals we faced.

'Special mention must go to our overseas player, Mick Alexander. His enthusiasm and good contributions with bat, ball and in the field, where he was electric, were all much appreciated by his team-mates.

'It's been a fantastic end to my debut season as skipper and a pleasure to captain a side that plays in such good spirit.'

Tattenhall went into Saturday's game knowing they needed five points to win the title.

Chums were asked to bat first and made 156-7 from 45 overs, Ed Middleton hitting a half-century as Gary Forster claimed 2-51, Tom Green 1-29 and Mel Dobson 2-40.

In reply, Ahmad's towering 72no formed the foundation of Tattenhall's reply.

John Hope hit 35 but Ahmad had the final say, helping his side reach 157-2.

ALVANLEY's season ended with a defeat to already-relegated Weaverham.

Alvanley sat comfortably at 90-2 at the drinks interval but Chris Fletcher was bowled for 22 and Cei Sanderson was lbw for 24.

Wickets then tumbled as several batsmen perished under pressure and Alvanley were all out for 159.

In reply, Mark Leadbetter bowled well to take 2-26 but Rob McMillan's 22no guided Weaverham home with nine overs to spare.

In Division Two, BARROW signed off with a win at Ashley, hitting 160-7 in response to the hosts' 159-6 declared.

In Division Three, skipper Mark Evans blamed his side's lack of motivation for CASTROL's defeat at home to Offerton.

The Oilmen, who finish the season in eighth place in Meller Braggins League Division Three, produced a subdued performance as they fell to a two-wicket loss.

Evans said: 'When you have nothing to play for it is difficult to stay motivated, but I think we have proved to ourselves over the last couple of weeks that we can play this game.'
