SAUGHALL produced a commanding all-round performance to beat Knutsford in Division Two of the Cheshire Alliance on Saturday.

On a scorching afternoon at Jubilee Park, the Chester side were in trouble early on, losing openers James Huxley (4) and Martin Huxley (3) with just 11 runs on the board.

Adam Griffiths (24) steadied the ship before Ben Salisbury (76) stole the limelight, hitting 14 boundaries.

Wickets tumbled as Saughall looked to accelerate towards an early declaration, but the evergreen Ian Jenkins (6) raised a loud cheer as he found the boundary in the last over.

The hosts were dismissed for 218 in the 45th over.

Knutsford’s reply got off to a stuttering start – they were 4-2 – and it set the trend for the innings as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Chris Andrews (3-19), Dipak Jena (3-22) and Mike Andrews (2-30) did the damage as Knutsford were bowled out for 104.

This Saturday, third-placed Saughall go to leaders Glazebury.

In Division One, FRODSHAM’S match at Rylands was postponed while in Division Three CAPENHURST drew at home with Hartford II was drawn.

Hartford scored 159-8 and Cape replied with 134-7 (Neil Tilby 48).
