TATTENHALL got back to winning ways in Division Two of the Vivio County League with a seven-wicket victory at Irby.

The hosts produced a fine wicket with pace and bounce.

Their Aussie, Andy Williams (88no), enjoyed batting on it, helping his side to a final tally of 204-6. But Ollie Thompson cracked 88 and Kiwi Dan Power 58 as Tattenhall replied with a comfortable 207-3 with five overs to spare.

Alvanley had a bad day at the office and were thoroughly outplayed by visiting Weaverham.

The away side batted first in hot, dry conditions and set about building a platform against spirited new ball bowling from Chris Charles and Kenny Roberts.

An early catch went down and 50 was posted for the first wicket before Robin Fisher completed a smart catch off Charles’ bowling. Soon after the dangerous Lewis was dropped off Dave Shewring and he made Alvanley suffer with a stoic 34. In doing so he blunted the Alvanley attack, laying a platform for the middle order.

Superb hitting from Wilden Cornwall, Weaverham’s West Indian, carried the score to 200 and some lusty blows in the final overs took the score to an impressive 255.

All seemed well in Alvanley’s reply as young openers Ste Charles and Jimmy Ecclestone went to 29 in good time. When both departed in quick succession, followed quickly by Rob Fisher and Ian Charles, the complexion of the contest had changed.

A counter-attacking stand followed as Chris Charles (36) and Andy Bennion (35) went about knocking the bowlers off their stride. They took the score to 109-4 with 27 overs to go. But when both fell, equally culpably to loose shots, the rest of the innings folded.

Cornwall blew away the lower order, well assisted by Rob MacMillan, who gained some turn late on. Alvanley were all out for 119.
