OAKMERE finally picked up their first Meller Braggins League Division One victory of 2012 at Mobberley, winning comfortably by nine wickets.

On a wet and miserable Cheshire morning, a few showers prior to the start left the game in doubt, however with both sides keen to play, Oakmere skipper Pete Hutchinson finally won the toss and decided to have a bowl on a very green, wet Mobberley track.

That decision looked to have backfired as opening bowler Sam Catling struggled at first. But by the end of the first over he had dismissed both Mobberley’s openers on his way to 7-33.

Nick Ball (3-47) backed him up as Mobberley were dismissed for 89.

Craig Phelan (53no) opened strongly and after a few wobbles Dan Wood arrived to score 25no to get Oakmere to 91-1, a victory which lifted them clear of the relegation zone.

“When I saw Sam bowling like Bambi on ice I wanted to call the game off. I’m a little glad that didn't happen now,” said Hutchinson.

“We need to kick on and build some kind of momentum going through the second half of the season.”

In Division Two BUNBURY were bowled out for 54 after Winsford set a target of 96.

BARROW beat Wirral in Division Three, declaring on 202-6 before dismissing the visitors for 160.
