KINGSLEY dodged the showers to get their season off to a perfect start in Meller Braggins League Division Two.

With rain forecast, new skipper Peter Pearce had no hesitation in putting his old team Cholmondeley in to bat.

He was rewarded as his seamers took early scalps. Travis Martin led the attack with five wickets, while Alex Hatt claimed two.

The tail was polished off by Adrian Burden’s left arm spin (2-0) as Chum were all out for 43. In reply, the youthful partnership of Ben Pearce (27no) and Ben Stoddart (9) put on 38 for the second wicket before Kingsley finished on 44-2.

Rain put pay to Saughall’s opening Cheshire Alliance Division One fixture of the season against Rylands on Saturday, but the Chester team were in action on Sunday, progressing to the next round of the league’s Knockout Cup after beating Bowden Vale.

The visitors were all out for 107, Pete Tunnicliffe (3-29) and Chris Andrews (3-15) the pick of the bowlers. Ben Salisbury (47) fired Saughall to 112-4.

The wet weather put paid to Saturday’s Cheshire Alliance fixtures involving FRODSHAM and CAPENHURST.

Saughall 2nds opened the 2012 league campaign with a comprehensive victory over Ashley.
