VILLAGE cricketers will bank on practice making perfect after netting a £20,000 grant.

The money from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) covers more than two thirds of the cost of a new nets facility at Frodsham Cricket Club.

The two-bay synthetic area will help senior players in their match preparation as well as allowing the ambitious Cheshire Alliance Division One outfit to continue to develop its junior players.

The Cheshire Cricket Board nominated Frodsham for the grant and club officials and members can now look forward to reaping the rewards of the £27,319 project.

Brendan Connolly, project manager at the Cricket Field Lane club, said “We were really thrilled when we heard we had been awarded a grant because we urgently needed to upgrade our practice facilities.

“We have over 60 junior cricketers at the club – boys and girls – and we also provide coaching and play opportunities to local schools.

“In recent times, the club has made good progress and has achieved ECB Clubmark and Focus Club status, which enabled us to make the grant application. We are pleased the work we do at junior level and in cricket development has been rewarded in this way.”
