CHRISTLETON boosted their Division One survival prospects by recording a winning draw at Macclesfield on Saturday.

Paul Allen’s side’s winless streak now stands at eight matches, but they have showed signs of improvement in recent weeks and their performance at the high flyers was testament to that.

A big reason for their upturn in form has been down to Iroshan de Silva rediscovering his touch. Last season’s leading run-scorer in the league survived a first-ball LBW appeal to smash 90 and make it 340 runs in his last four outings.

With Iftikhar Naseer (36) and skipper Allen (36) offering good support, Christleton declared on 221-7.

That was a total third-placed Macc were never going to chase down with spinner Naseer (4-42) in the mood, but they did manage to hold out at 162-8.

TATTENHALL stretched their unbeaten Division Two run to three games on the same afternoon, albeit in unconvincing fashion as they had to settle for a losing draw at struggling Ashton-on-Mersey.

Left-arm spinner Craig Williamson (4-63), fresh from snaffling 7-51 in a single innings for Derbyshire 2nds in the week, helped polish off the rock-bottom hosts for just 163.

But after opener Paul Ferriday was taken to hospital with a broken arm, Tattenhall never got going with the bat and so were satisfied to see out their overs on 145-8 (Andrew Morris 29).
