CHESTER Boughton Hall made it four County League wins from four with a hard-earned home victory over Alderley Edge.

Winning the toss and electing to bat in blustery conditions, Jim Gillson’s side posted a challenging 260-5 before declaring after 49 overs.

The early mainstay was again Warren Goodwin with a fine 71. He was well supported by Ollie Law (31) and Steve Ogilby (24).

Goodwin started brightly but the innings got bogged down for a while against the spin of Charlie Reid and Ethan Harding.

When Goodwin was bowled for 71, Daron Cruickshank took up the baton and an excellent partnership between him and Gillson saw Chester put on 113 for the fifth wicket. Cruickshank fell just before the close for 72 while Gillson carried his bat for a fine 58no.

The prime target in the Alderley innings was star man Mark Currie, and Chester were delighted to see the back of him for 24. From then on, Chester chipped away while dodging the rain showers. Cruickshank’s pace was electrifying and his bouncer to Paul Manton produced an exemplary flying catch from Ogilby.

After a rain break, Cruickshank (4-77) and Trevor Fabian did the damage as the visitors were all out for 198.
