CHOLMONDELEY halted their slide down the Meller Braggins Division One with a six-wicket win at Runcorn on Saturday.

They won the toss and asked Runcorn to bat. After a brisk start Runcorn reached 85-2 off 22 overs with dangerman Mark Cahill and Andy Booth in.

Russ Walker and Ed Middleton were introduced into the attack by skipper Andy Lath-am.

The move proved decisive as the finger spin and flight of Walker unsettled Cahill who holed out to Will Hockenhull at mid on for 35 and Booth fell for 44 to Ed Middleton.

A succession of wickets followed with Runcorn falling to 145 all out as Walker took 4-27 off 10 overs and the left arm fast bowling of Ed Middleton took 4-30 off nine overs. Rich Cooke and Neil Thompson each took a wicket.

In reply, Cholmondeley started positively, reaching 15 off three overs before Walker was out for six.

In-form Guy Ford came in and plundered the bowling, scoring 35 off 25 deliveries before being out with the score on 55 off 12 overs.

Pat Taylor and Luca Heritage then put on 50 before Taylor was out for 21 with the score on 106-3 in the 25th over.

Will Hockenhull then joined Heritage and took the score to 130-4 off 28 overs before Heritage was bowled for an impressive 59.

In at six came Ed Middleton and the score finished 150-4 off 32 overs with Ed Middleton 10 not out and Will Hockenhull 11 not out.
