Chester Boughton Hall skipper Lee Dixon has been named as the new captain of the Cheshire county side for 2016.

Batsman Dixon, who made his Cheshire debut in 2010 in stunning fashion with a knock of 169 against Oxfordshire in Banbury, was confirmed as the successor to Danny Woods at the county side’s AGM this week.

As Cheshire T20 captain in 2015, he led the side to success, winning the Unicorns T20 Trophy and in 2016 he’ll now lead for all one day and three day games.

“It’s a real honour for me to become skipper of Cheshire, something I’ve dreamed of,” he said.

“Since making my debut at the highest level for the county in 2010, I’ve always hoped this day would come”.

Dixon reserved praise for his predecessors and revealed his focus would be on helping to bring through the next crop of talent through the system.

“I been really lucky to play under three great Cheshire captains,” he said.

“Albert (Andrew) Hall and I still talk regularly and I really value his advice. I’ve known James Duffy for a number of years and of course I’ve worked really closely with Woodsy, such a quality slow bowler on the Minor Counties circuit.

“In recent years we’ve had good times and testing times and my job now is to ensure we nurture the huge amount of young talent we have across the county and look to the future”.

As captain of Chester Boughton Hall in the Cheshire County League, Dixon is well versed on the quality of the players and has already established a good rapport with much of his squad.
