Frodsham -based North West Flyfishers hosted their annual awards at Frodsham Golf Club where several Cheshire anglers reeled in prizes.

Sid Davies of Frodsham and Tony Slater of Ellesmere Port netted the top prize of Bank Champion and Boat Champion respectively.

Davies also landed the Pennywise Shield for biggest fish of the year, an impressive Rainbow Trout tipping the scales at 16lb, taken from Craiglwyd Springs in Penmaenmawr near Conwy, together with the Harry Redman Memorial Trophy for victory at Barnsfold Water, near Preston.

The club’s May trip was to Blithfield Resevoir in Staffordshire for the Les Dutton Boat Pairs Trophy, which was collected by Billy Stubbs (Helsby) and Neil Barlow (Frodsham).

Newcomer Gary Scholes (Frodsham) won the JC Clarke and Son Shield for the trip to Ellerdine Lakes in Shropshire and Jonathan Moores (Ffrith) bagged the Peter Moores Memorial Trophy for top spot at the Christmas match, also at Craiglywd Springs.

Trier of the Year, for the most improved angler, went to Ray Eyre of Manchester, Cast of the Year for humorous fishing antics went to Simon Smith of Malpas , while the coveted Clubman of the Year award went to Jim Jervis of Ellesmere Port.

The club, which has close to 30 members, is now in its 35th year with members of various ages and abilities, and is actively looking for new members of any experience to join.

Informal meetings take place at 8pm on the first Wednesday of each month at Frodsham Conservative Club where a regular fly raffle is held together with a series of how-to sessions and there are plans for guest speakers to attend.

Club matches, featuring a mixture of boat and bank venues, are held once a month across the North West of England and Wales.
