Fancy taking in some live sport this weekend?

There is always plenty going on in and around the Chester area, which is why we bring you this handy guide to when and where you can see sporting events in the city.

You'll have to stray a little outside of Chester to take in this weekend's three picks - but they should be worth it.

Rugby union: Ellesmere Port v Prenton; The Whitby Club, Ellesmere Port; Saturday, December 5 (2.15pm)

The Oilers' winning streak in Merseyside West was ended by Port Sunlight last time out, so they will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend. The visit of Prenton, struggling in the lower reaches of the table, is an ideal opportunity to do just that.

Ice hockey: Deeside Dragons v Hull Jets; Deeside Ice Rink; Saturday, December 5 (7pm)

The Dragons are right in the mix for the Laidler Conference title and will be red-hot favourites to ground the Jets, a side they defeated 8-3 on Humberside last weekend. Saturday's return encounter should see the hosts add to their stunning tally of 86 goals from 11 games so far this season.

Basketball: Cheshire Phoenix v Newcastle Eagles; Cheshire Oaks Arena, Ellesmere Port; Sunday, December 6 (5.30pm)

The Nix will have their work cut out here. The Eagles fly into town for a BBL Cup semi-final tie, when the hosts will be looking to build a big lead which they can take to the North East for next week's second leg. They've already beaten high-flying Worcester this season - and will need more of the same to see off Newcastle.
