Chester FC salvaged a point at the death as they claimed a 1-1 draw at York City - but it was a game they did more than enough to win.

Kane Richards nodded home from a Ryan Lloyd cross in injury-time to cancel out Matt Fry's opener on 70 minutes - and after the Blues had wasted a glut of chances in the second half.

But the draw extended Chester's unbeaten run in the National League to eight games ahead of a tough test at Macclesfield Town on Tuesday night.

Here's how the players rated at Bootham Crescent.

Liam Roberts – 7/10

A commanding presence between the sticks, Roberts was in good form again. A great save late on to ensure Chester shared the spoils.

Theo Vassell – 7/10

One of his best games in a Blues shirt. The 19-year-old was energetic throughout and made some key blocks in the first half.

Johnny Hunt – 6/10

Quieter than he has been in recent weeks but solid nontheless. Gave little change to Daniel Nti on the York wing.

Ryan Astles – 7/10

A strong performance from the big defender. Won his headers and put his body on the line more than once.

Sam Hughes – 7/10

So comfortable at this level now it's easy to forget he is still a teenager. Won what he needed to in the air and showed his physical dominance.

Elliott Durrell – 6/10

Looked to create but lacked incision against the Minstermen. Went close with a well struck free kick.

Ryan Lloyd – 7/10

Kept the energy levels up in midfield after the break and worked hard. Great cross to set up Richards for the leveller.

Luke George – 6/10

Worked hard and improved after the break, helping to break up play in the centre of the park.

Craig Mahon 8/10

Excellent. Tireless throughout and ran at York time and again. The Minstermen will have been glad to see the back of him.

Jordan Chapell – 6/10

Tried to effect things but the game passed him by for periods. Should have done better when well placed in the second half.

James Alabi – 7/10

Guilty of missing two great chances but improved after the break and put in arguably his best shift of the season. Desperately needs a goal, though.

Subs

Kane Richards (on for Chapell - 66 minutes) 7/10

Massive moment for Richards and a goal he needed. Rose well to salvage a point to make up for a gilt-edged miss at the far post earlier in the half. Something for him to build on.

Entertainment value: 8/10

An end to end clash throughout that had plenty of flashpoints. Barely a moment to catch your breath in the second half.

Referee watch: Simon Barrow – 3/10

So many silly bookings handed out and the penalty shout that he ignored when Ryan Lloyd was felled left even the home fans stunned. Really poor.
