Craig Hobson insists he wasn’t responsible for the ear-splitting singing coming from the dressing room after Monday’s famous win.

Hobson’s equaliser on 74 minutes cancelled out Blaine Hudson’s opener and laid the platform for the incredible climax.

Ben Heneghan’s winner with seconds left prompted animated celebrations in the stands and on the pitch.

Hobson said the dressing room was ‘rocking’ after the game but claims one of his team-mates was behind the singing.

“It was Kingsley James I think,” said Hobson.

“You could see how much it meant to both sets of fans and it was great for us and great for our fans to get the win.”

Steve Burr signed Hobson, a former Sheffield United trainee, from Kendal Town when managing Stalybridge Celtic.

Burr recognises Hobson’s strengths and limitations, and therefore understands how to bring the best out of the 26-year-old.

He has four goals in nine starts and two substitute appearances this season, but his overall contribution has been far greater.

His persistence, hardiness and willingness to run until his legs pack up has endeared him to the supporters.

Hobson’s goal on Monday night, an intelligent flick with the outside of his left boot that diverted John Rooney’s curler into the net, demonstrated a more refined side to his game.

“I can’t really remember too much about it,” said the Manchester-based forward.

“At the time obviously I was buzzing but when you’re a striker and in the six yard box anything that comes like that you love them.

“I thought we came out first half and we weren’t quite on it for the first 10-15 minutes, Wrexham had quite a few chances and took one of them.

“I think we rode a bit of a storm and rode our luck at times, but you’ve got to ride your luck and we stuck in the game.

“We only conceded one and I think that was a massive key for us.

“We went out second half and we knew one goal and we’re back in it.

“We said at half-time we’ll just keep going about our business, keep passing it and the opportunities came and we took them, thankfully.”

Hobson, who was reunited with Burr when he brought him to the club in March, feels the manager deserves credit for the late winner, which saw right back Heneghan popping up in the opposition area in the final minute.

Hobson said: “That’s how the gaffer wants to play. He wants both of our fullbacks bombing on and joining in and Ben’s been a great outlet for us.

“He’s winning his headers, bombing up and down and he’s took a gamble at the back stick and it’s paid off.

“That’s two wins out of the last two games and to come from behind to win the game at home is massive for us.”
