Chester Canoe Club members have been in excellent form on the water across Europe.

Melvin Swallow, Richard Rodgers, David Hatton and Jenny Swallow competed against an international field at the Amsterdam Waterland Marathon on an interesting course featuring canals and lakes.

Melvin finished 19th in the 23km race in a time of 1:57:04 with Richard two places behind in 1:59:21.

David came seventh in the junior men's race over 14km in 1:06:08 and Jenny also acheived a seventh-place finish in the women's senior race in 1:09:49.

Jenny and Dave then competed in the Great Britain Marathon Team Assessment Races in Embridge with both paddling extremely well as Jenny came fourth and David finished 10th in their respective fields.

Senior paddlers Richard and Melvin entered the Sprint Masters National Championships in Nottingham with both collecting medals. Richard won silver in the men's over-35s 1000m race while Melvin took bronze in the men's over-55s 1000m race.

On Sunday, the club is hosting the Chester Canoe Marathon - part of the national Hasler Series - and a Great Britain marathon selection event to coincide with the British Canoe Union's Go Canoeing week.

The first race starts at 11am with the selection event beginning at 12.45pm. The races will be held at Sandy Lane with the country's leading marathon paddlers competing.

Meanwhile, Colin Cartwright has created a new precedent after he was selected to represent Great Britain at single kayak (K1), single canoe (C1) and double canoe (C2) this summer.

Colin will be competing at World Cup events in Slovenia and Austria, and the ICF Wildwater Canoeing Sprint World Championships in Vienna.
