CHESTER Sailing & Canoe Club juniors David Hatton and Jake Oldfield-Connor have been called up by their country.

The duo will race for Great Britain’s under 16 marathon canoeing squad in France this weekend.

The 15-year-olds were selected following strong performances at the British National Championships held on the River Thames.

In France, they will compete over eight miles in two races in K1 (singles) and together in K2.

The GB call-up crowns a successful year for the Chester pair who, in only their first year at U16 level, have been promoted consistently through the year in both the marathon and the Olympic discipline of sprint canoeing.

The youngsters have gained membership of GB canoeing’s national talent programmes and specialist coaching to help them build for next season.
