STAND-IN Manchester United captain Gary Neville set his sights on second place in the Barclaycard Premiership after scoring the only goal of the game to beat Leicester at Old Trafford last night.

Neville scored with a powerful finish from close range after 56 minutes to end Leicester's brave resistance.

The win leaves United just three points behind second-placed Chelsea with a game in hand, and Neville wants to eclipse the Londoners to avoid having to go through a qualifier to reach the Champions League.

He said: "That was an important win for us, because we need to get as close as we can to Arsenal to get that second place.

"We don't want to be in a position where we have to qualify for the Champions League. We also want to get as close as we can to Arsenal - we don't want them to win by too many points.

"It was not a great performance, but I'm delighted we won the game."

Neville also praised Cristiano Ronaldo, who again impressed on the wing and proved to be United's most potent attacking weapon.

"He is confident and he always wants the ball," he said.

"He dribbles at players and makes it very difficult for them."
